Opening: I recently watched How It’s Made on the Discovery Channel, and the episode on how Oreos are made. They use dry ice when making the dough to keep it from becoming crumbly. The dough is pressed into a mold to make the designs on the cookie. This giant roller makes 5000 wafers an hour. After baking and cooling, they go to two ramps that make them fall either with the design side up or the design side down, so the two halves are in the right orientation for the cream filling.
As cool as it is to watch an Oreo cookie be created by a big robot, our bodies are infinitely more complicated and wonderfully made. The Bible tells us how we were made: we are formed by a wonderful, all-powerful creator who loves us.
Genesis 1:26-28.
26 Then God said, “Let us make human beings[b] in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth,[c] and the small animals that scurry along the ground.”27 So God created human beings[d] in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. 28 Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.”
- What is amazing is that the Bible says we were made in God’s image (Genesis 1:26). Man is not God, but we were created to glorify Him by looking and acting like Him in our thoughts, words, and actions.
- We are created to take care of what God made (Genesis 1:28).
- We are created to be in a relationship with God (Jesus’ prayer John 17:21). This means that God, who made the biggest mountains and the deepest oceans, wants us to know Him, to talk with Him, and to love Him.
- We are created so that we know the difference between right and wrong. We look the most like God when we follow His standards of right and wrong.
